Fawad Khan starrer, ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’, is set to make its Indian debut on September 20, according to multiple Indian media outlets. The film, a remake of the 1979 classic Maula Jatt, has already made waves in Pakistan since its 2022 release, where it enjoyed massive success.
Produced by Ammara Hikmat and directed by Bilal Lashari, The Legend of Maula Jatt brings a modern twist to the iconic tale. The original film’s legendary characters, Maula Jatt and Noori Natt, were famously portrayed by Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Qureshi, leaving an indelible mark on Pakistani cinema. In this latest adaptation, Fawad Khan takes on the role of Maula Jatt, while Hamza Ali Abbasi steps into the shoes of his nemesis, Noori Natt.
The film’s Indian release is reportedly being handled by ZEE Studios. This marks another collaboration between Fawad Khan and the Indian entertainment industry, following his recent appearance in the web series Barzakh, directed by Asim Abbasi for Zee5 Studios. However, Khan’s role in Barzakh sparked controversy, particularly due to the inclusion of an LGBTQ subplot, which drew backlash from conservative quarters.
As the film approaches its release in India, some Pakistani extremist groups have expressed their intent to block its screening, citing opposition to the cross-border cultural exchange. Despite these challenges, The Legend of Maula Jatt is poised to captivate Indian audiences, further solidifying Fawad Khan’s reputation as one of South Asia’s leading actors.
