The reigning Formula 1 World Champion and Red Bull Racing superstar, Max Verstappen broke the internet after he was spotted playing “the gentlemen’s game” called Cricket. The F1 racer has once again proven that he’s not afraid to step out of his comfort zone.
Verstappen joined England cricketers Reece Topley, Will Jacks, and Issy Wong for a lighthearted cricket session as part of the Castore Cricket Challenge.
The photos and videos of Verstappen wielding a cricket bat quickly went viral, sparking a frenzy among fans of both motorsport and cricket.

The Dutchman, who is more accustomed to gripping a steering wheel than a cricket bat, initially struggled to get the hang of the sport. His unfamiliarity with cricket was evident from the start, as he fumbled with the basics, including how to properly hold the bat. The England players, clearly amused, offered him some quick tips and guidance.

Despite the rocky start, Verstappen’s competitive spirit shone through. After a few attempts, he managed to connect with the ball, much to the delight of his cricketing mentors. The session was filled with lighthearted banter, with Verstappen joking about his mishits. “I almost killed someone,” he quipped, referring to the production crew who had to dodge a few errant swings.
Once he adjusted his grip and stance, Verstappen managed to hit three balls successfully, showcasing his adaptability and determination. However, not all of his attempts were smooth. A few wild swings sent the ball flying in unintended directions, causing chaos on the sidelines.
The real test came when one of the cricketers bowled a fast delivery at Verstappen. Used to speeds exceeding 300 km/h on the track, Verstappen was caught off guard by the sheer pace of the cricket ball. “I couldn’t even see it,” he admitted, laughing at his inability to react in time.

“Max Verstappen playing cricket is the crossover I didn’t know I needed,” one fan tweeted. Another joked, “He’s fast on the track, but not fast enough to see a cricket ball!”

While Verstappen’s cricketing debut was entertaining, it was clear that his true talents lie elsewhere. After the cricket session, the Castore Cricket Challenge organizers set up a racing simulator for Verstappen, allowing him to return to his comfort zone. Unsurprisingly, he dominated the simulator, reminding everyone why he’s a two-time (and counting) F1 World Champion.
