A murder case has been filed against Bangladesh’s cricket sensation Shakib Al Hasan, accusing him of involvement in the killing of a garment factory worker. The case was lodged by the victim’s father and also mentions former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Shakib Al Hasan has been a stalwart in Bangladesh’s cricket team, was previously a member of the now-dissolved parliament led by Hasina. The political landscape in Bangladesh has been tumultuous, with Hasina fleeing the country in early August following massive student protests.

Despite the political chaos, Shakib received clearance from the interim government to participate in the ongoing two-Test series against Pakistan. The first Test kicked off on Wednesday, with Shakib joining the squad in Rawalpindi.

Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, addressed the media on August 20, stating, “He has played this game for so long, so he knows his role and how to prepare himself. I am not thinking about his political career.” Shanto expressed confidence in Shakib’s ability to perform, emphasizing his professionalism and focus on cricket.

Bangladeshis in Dhaka protested over Shakib’s continued inclusion in the team, with former Bangladesh Cricket Board member Rafiqul Islam criticising him for staying silent as protesters died in clashes with security forces.
